In this portrait format painting, Mira Bai plays Khartaal in her right hand and ektaara in her left. As she plays the instruments, her hands are raised in the air, her eyes half closed in ecstatic trance, her body sways. She is clad in an ochre coloured sari/dhoti typical of Hindu saints and devotees. This Madhubani painting offers a flat perspective. While she plays her instruments, Lord Krishna playing his flute appears above her. The music transcends her imaginations to meet Lord Krishna.
This project is a collaboration of Bridge Bharat with Carpet Couture. Here we bring forth the two mediums to create a unique collection of artworks that provides an intervention in viewing art. It is a coming together of thousands of years of painting tradition with the Bhadohi art of weaving.
