Thangka

A Thangka is a traditional Tibetan Buddhist painting that is made on cotton or silk applique using intricate application of colors derived from organic and mineral pigments.  The paintings served as a visual depiction of scenes from Buddhist cosmology where vivid tableaus showing deities and mandalas are painted. The process of creating a Thangka is a sacred endeavor, involving precise measurements, ritualistic preparation, and the patient application of mineral-based pigments. Masters of this art form, known as Thangka painters, pass down their knowledge through generations, preserving a rich cultural heritage. The fusion of artistic expression and religious devotion in Thangka paintings encapsulates a spiritual journey, inviting both artist and viewer into a world of transcendence and inner peace.
