Mukesh Dhiman

Trained by Masters, A Revivalist Preserving One Brushstroke at a Time

Trained by masters, a revivalist was discovered painting the temple wall at Dharamshala and from there, a three-decade-long artistic career of Mukesh Kumar Dhiman would span. He is a distinguished miniature artist hailing from Pathiar village in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh where began learning the art at the age of nine from Shri Chandu Lal Raina, an 8th-generation miniaturist. Later he would receive further training under the tutelage of esteemed Padmashree Awardee, Mr. Vijay Sharma. As a member of the ‘Kangra Arts Promotion Society’ along with fellow miniaturist Dhaniram Khushdil, he has actively contributed to the revival and preservation of this rich cultural heritage. He has provided his services to the local museum in Nargota. His miniature works have been exhibited nationally and internationally in places such as Frankfurt, Germany (2023), Living and Inspired Tradition, Saffron Art (2018), IHGF Delhi Fair-Autumn (2018), and the ‘All India Art Exhibition’ (2002) where he received national recognition as well. He was honored with the ‘State Award’ in 2011 and 2012, and the prestigious ‘National Award’ in 2014.
